Bonsai Seedlings
If you’re looking to grow a bonsai tree from the start of it's life then consider using a seedling. Some people sometimes mistakenly look for bonsai tree seedlings, unfortunately there is no such thing.
This is because bonsai trees are controlled by their environment and they are just the same genetically as normal size trees. Therefore if you buy a seedling for a normal sized tree, you can also grow this as a bonsai tree as well, you just have to control its environment. What makes the bonsai tree, a bonsai tree and not a fully grown tree is the fact that you keep it in a small pot and you trim and prune its growth creating a miniature appearance.
The best way to gain access to a bonsai seedling is to go down to a local gardening store and buy from a famous or well-known supplier of seeds. A bonsai nursery is when you grow several seedlings at the same time and it might be worth trying this out instead of just buying one seed and hoping for the best. When planting the seeds, placed them into the ground during the autumn season.
The application of seed compost is also a good idea. When the seeds begin to shoot during the growing season, which is likely to be in the springtime, you can easily pick out the new growths as the individual bonsai trees come to life. These can then be placed in their own individual pots and bowls and it's a good idea to a leave the new trees to grow for a year or so before you begin training them into a bonsai tree.
Another way of obtaining a bonsai seedling that doesn’t involve buying from a gardening store is for you to go around during the autumn period and pick up seeds from any local trees. Once these have been collected you can begin growing several trees all at once in a nursery. If you are growing more than one seed at the same time, then care should be taken so that they do not touch one another.
The seed should be placed at about quite twice the depth of the actual seeds height, so this is usually about a thumbs length or two in depth. Any moss that is present should be removed from the soil once the seed begins to germinate. During this early germination period the seedling or new bonsai tree should usually be set outdoors. Give it a healthy amount of sunlight during this period of time and also remove any weeds so that your bonsai tree does not have to compete with them.
