Bonsai Serissa Tree

The Serissa tree is quite a bit of a challenge to look after if you are performing the art of bonsai tree growing. It comes in a range of different flowers and colors and the flowers are quite beautiful when they blossom giving off a unique star shaped appearance. It's quite a small shrub and has darkly green leaves that give off an unpleasant odour when they are cut and it also has quite delicate branches and stems so you must handle victory with care.

The star shaped flowers are often white throughout the summer, however there are other colors available including pink and yellow. Traditionally the tree is styled into an informal upright formal upright position and also cascading styles. Originally the tree is from China and it can be imported from this country if you are very keen on getting a very fine specimen however it's best to do this only if you're an expert as they are quite difficult to look after for beginner bonsai growers.

It is best to grow these plants indoors during the summer months and in the winter you want to keep it away from any frost or low-temperature based areas as this is a tropical tree which likes warm temperatures. If the temperature drops below 8°C then the tree will begin to slowly become very unhealthy. During the summer period you can keep them outside in the warm temperatures as they really enjoy hot temperatures.

You’ll want to water this plant quite frequently, especially during the summer months and less so during the autumn and winter periods. The Serissa tree should also be given plenty of fertilizer during the height of its growing season and it should not be giving too much fertilizer after the repotting occurs. Wiring this tree is fairly easy to do and you can do it for up to one year in time. It's best to apply this during the early summer and early autumn period however you want to avoid wiring any of the trees which have branches that are too soft.

You want to avoid pinching and twisting off any young growths and instead use a pair of scissors and cutters to remove any new growths which you see as undesirable. However you want to be careful with which growths you remove as during the early growing season. This is because you want to keep on the small buds as they often turn into beautiful flowers.

Repotting your Serissa is best done just before the growing season occurs, so only spring or at the end of winter, otherwise it's a good idea to avoid doing this because it can do more damage to your tree if you do this in the middle of the growing season. After you've done the repotting it's a good idea to apply a strong compost or amount of fertilizer to help it recover and grow well.
